Wood N Strings Recording Studio
After 15 years or so recording literally thousands of hours in other studios with Tom Smith at the wheel, I decided I wanted to save a little time in traveling back and forth, a little headache in scheduling both him and the studio, and a lot of dough – thus the WNS studio was born in the mid 90’s. It was awesome! It provided freedom to relax and record when I was good and ready and freedom to relax and play it over a thousand times if I wanted to. Then, when the dulcimer was all recorded, along with some of the other instruments, Tom and I would get together at his studio and bring in other musicians. His greatest skill is producing a variety of instruments into a project without losing sight of its heart and concept. Deep words to describe music making, I know, but it is quite complicated and even more intense attempting to create an arrangement never before heard with human ears – yes, it is indeed a “deep” process! It’s a heck of a lot of fun, too! It was great having my own studio and I look forward to having it set back up and running again this winter (2009).
